Utility Regulations For Sewer Lateral Hook-Ons

1.  Notice for inspections must be 24 hours in advance, Inspections will be made Monday thru Friday between 9am and 4pm.

2.  No sewer laterals shall be laid on solid ground.  All laterals must be laid on at LEAST 4 (four) inches of # 8 crushed stone.  All laterals shall be covered with a minimum of 6 (six) inches of # 8 crushed stone before backfilling with soil or granular material (under sidewalks, driveways or other paved areas).

3.  Under NO CONDITIONS shall any sewer laterals be backfilled until the Gem Utilities Inspector has inspected all work.  The Inspector must see the pipe laid on the bedding before the remaining # 8 crushed stone is placed over the pipe.

4.  Sewer tape, minimum of 2 (two) inch wide (green) plastic coated shall be placed inside of trench 12-18 inches below ground level when backfilling. A green 8 gauge copper tracing wire shall be either wrapped or taped to the lateral with the end of the wire zip-tied to the clean out.

5.  All laterals shall be 6" PVC push on gasketed pipe and the material specifications shall comply with ASTM-3034 (SDR-35).  No vitrified clay or glue joint pipe will be accepted.

6.  The minimum slope of the pipe from the dwelling to the connection shall be 1/4 (one quarter) inch per foot or 2.00 percent.

7.  Any 90 degree bends in the lateral shall have a clean out extended to the surface to facilitate maintenance and be a minimum of 6 (six) inch capped pipe.  Any runs longer than 100 ft. shall have a clean out.

8.  All clean outs shall be 6 (six) inch capped pipe.

9.  No sewer hook ups shall be made unless the Owner/Contractor/Builder has made application and paid all fee's associated with new service.

10.  Open holes or trenches shall have orange safety fence around the open area, and use other appropriate safety measures at all times.
